Meon RC AGM November 2025
Meon RC AGM November 2025
Chair’s Report
2025 has been another fantastic year for Meon. Members continued to embraced the non qualifier team and individual classes run at Qualifiers, with Meon once again often entering more teams than any other club, but we have also still had a very strong showing at the qualifiers gaining 20 rides at the Championships and with Georgia Norton winning at the NAF National Dressage Championship at Arena UK.
This year Meon has also:-
- Held a Christmas Members only dressage competition at Quob
- Hosted the Summer Dressage Qualifier at Wood Farm organised and run by the multi talented Corinne and her Team.
- Successfully entered our first ever Quadrille team at Arena UK. The amazing costumes financed in part by our AGM raffle last year.
- Continued to compete at Endurance with the Club team qualifying for the Riding Club Endurance National Championships
- Attended the Area 17 Championships at Moreton which was once again wet but brilliant fun and our enthusiastic numbers actually made the event viable for the organisers.
- We have hosted the Intermediate and Novice Show jumping Qualifier alongside our usual November show, organised by Amy and her Team and our rosettes once again generously sponsored by Liphook.
- Held a very successful and enjoyable residential Camp at Buckleberry once again organised by Corinne.
Our training sessions have been well attended throughout the year even though there is a huge variety of alternative activities on offer locally. It is an ongoing challenge to provide what the members want and what will be attended to make them viable, so feedback from members is vital and we welcome your suggestions and input.
Next year, along with all the usual Qualifiers (most of which are frustratingly in Moreton), we are planning:-
- More members Only Dressage competitions starting in January,
- Entering Riding Club teams for the Moreton 3 Day Event in April.
and
- In May we are planning on a residential Camp at Bovington which initial feedback suggests could be very popular.
This year the Committee is also introducing a Winter League to encourage you all to keep going to events and clinics through the bleak mid-winter months. For each outing you will get points with the member with the most at the beginning of April winning a MRL £25 voucher and then rosettes to 6 places . This will start on December 1st 2025
We are also still looking at the issue of Meon possibly becoming incorporated as a form of company in the near future, but still in the early planning stage.
Once again I want to thank all of you for making this Club what it is and especially to the helpers who make everything happen.
Meon Riding Club Awards 2025
Novice challenge Award (outstanding performance at Novice level) –
Lily Richardson is one of our juniors that has shone this year, qualifying for the junior dressage team at the BRC Lincoln champs, riding in our first ever Quadrille, and being our only junior riding at the Area 17 Championship weekend. Lily has also helped at our 2 qualifier events this year and is a real asset to Meon.
Hawthorn Achievement (outstanding performance at Intermediate level) –
Corinne Staples – Won the Area 17 Novice individual championship in July with a PB of 76%. She won the dressage to music qualifier Prelim and Novice. She also represented Meon in the October area dressage. Plus not quite relevant to this trophy but she has represented us and been placed in many an endurance competition.
McCarthy Salver (An award that recognises a member who has made the biggest improvement over the year, those that may not compete in teams or other comps, but still work hard in the background) Sara Grain
Sara and Tango started Endurance at the beginning of 2025 and they
have improved time and time again, their commitment led to a qualification in the RC league. Sara also rode for her area (Mid South Endurance GB) at the inter regional
competition and helped Mid South gain their best result yet. She also qualified as an individual to go to the National Champs but sadly Tango was off games. Sara has
been an advocate for the sport of Endurance and we hope she continues this.
Volunteers Award – Carla Crosby has stepped up to help at events time and time again, her willingness to help and support Meon is fantastic, she is always one of the first to put her hand up to help. Thank you Carla.
Simply Seamus Award (outstanding performance in SJ) – Heidi is our absolute Showjumping queen! She has stepped up through the heights this year in BS but this particular award is given to recognise her outstanding performance at the Area 17 championship this year, in both the 90cm and 100cm classes.
Gem Cross Country Cup (outstanding performance in XC) – Jo and Toby have battled demons and misfortune, but this year, this is awarded for their amazing xc
round at the Area 17 horse trials, they are our xc champions.
Best Newcomer (consistent performance by a relatively new member) Chloe Wilkins. Chloe has come up from Pony Club to represent Meon in many disciplines this year, and she is an extremely positive and kind team member and rider. This award especially recognises her success in the Meon 80cm Horse Trials championship team at Aston.
Arc En award (outstanding performance in dressage) – Georgia Norton – Georgia didn’t know Brian would recover from his injury last year, but he did, and not only that but they absolutely smashed it this year, going to the champs in Lincoln and winning the National BRC Champs at Introductory level for Meon RC, our National Champion 2025.
Rose Seagrave Memorial Trophy (Improvement in dressage over the year) Claire Shanks and Mags went to their first national championships together to compete in the Combined Training. They have worked really hard and we are all noticing the improvements and they are reaping the rewards not just in dressage but in their jumping too.
The Warrior Cup (The Good Boy or Good Girl cup) A new cup generously donated by Penny. When we asked Penny what her special horse Warrior was good at, she said ‘he was good at everything’ Our first winner is Hattie. Over the past ten years Hattie has been to numerous qualifiers and Meon competitions with 7 different riders and attended 11 BRC Championships for Meon. She was in the winning 80 cms show jumping team in 2022 and in the 80 Combined Challenge team which came 2nd in the same year, as well as placing individually in the Intermediate dressage and Team 70cms Combined Challenge. This year, at the respectable age of 20 she attended with Tiffany the 80cms Arena Eventing Championship as part of a team and did a super round and the 80cms Combined Challenge Championship as an individual. To quote Ony as she breathlessly finished her arena eventing round “What a fantastic pony!”
Thank you!
Thank you so much to Hannah Makin of Equine EQ. Hannah gave a brilliant talk about her physiological coaching with equestrians focussing on blockers and fear. You can find Hannah at www.EquineEQ.com
