Munstead One Day Clinic 22nd June 2024
Munstead One Day Clinic 22nd June 2024 by Phillipa
Munstead’s sandy soil provided the perfect surface for a recent one day clinic with Jasmine Collins.
We started off the day with some dressage in the grass arena before moving to the show jumping field and then spent the afternoon on the cross country course.
My main focus in the flat work was supporting my young horse with my outside hand so the contact was more balanced between both hands.
In the show jumping my aim was to keep in a good rhythm, moving forward between the jumps. It was great to watch other people’s horses and see the different ways of going. You can learn so much from watching other people.
After a picnic lunch and a well deserved hay net for the horses we set out for the cross country course. The great thing about Munstead is the range of jumps to choose from so you can pick from a range of simple to more challenging obstacles. The course builder’s sense of humour was certainly apparent with artificial ducks swimming in the water jump, a chair fence complete with cushions, and another festooned with teddy bears. It was brilliant to put things I’d learned during the mornings sessions into practice on the cross country course.
All in all it was a thoroughly worthwhile day spent in excellent company. Many thanks to Jasmine and to the other riders.
